Ordered my son's first birthday cake from sweet whimsy and it was a show stopper! Not only was it the star of the desert table but it was also moist and delicious. I was a little nervous about a butter cream icing in the summer for an outdoor party but the baker assured me that it would be fine and it absolutely was. We were given specific instructions and we followed them and the cake held up beautifully. Thank you sweet whimsy. I have a few events coming up and I will be passing on your contact for sure!

This is one of the best bakeries I've been into in a very long time. And don't let my Herculean physique fool you; I've been in plenty. This place is in a fantastic location. Don't say, "it's out of the way." That's the point. I don't think you could go wrong getting any of the treats from their display and a cup of coffee. Bet. I was there to taste wedding cakes and all that goes along with that. Not only was everything delicious, but the baker/owner is very professional and knows how to get you exactly what you want. This is the place for your cake. Count on it.

I have seen Sweet Whimsy change ownership 2-3 times in I think as many years, but for the most part, I've always been pleased with my purchases. I do think that some items can be overpriced sometimes. I have a real problem dolling out almost $4 for a cookie, any cookie, I don't care how good it is, unless its the size of a plate. Aside from cookies, or rather some of those prices, they carry a small variety of creative and yummy concoctions. It's a tiny shop with only a couple of spots to sit, in a shabby chic style. They (used to at least) have classes where you can watch and somewhat participate in making desserts in the kitchen, which is viewable from the main shop through a window. Any time I'm visiting and shopping in Long Grove, I insist on making a stop to see what the friendly staff are offering. My time in Long Grove is not complete unless I make my way down those stairs to Sweet Whimsy's semi hidden shop.

So sorry Sweet Whimsy, but I was very disappointed with your pastries. This is definitely a case of "it looks good in the display case but the taste was lacking." I was really looking forward to my strawberry cream puff, and although the filling was tasty, the pastry part was horrible. It tasted old and it was hard to chew and was almost salty.? The little oatmeal cookie sandwich was way over the top sweet. I was hoping to be WOW-ed, but sadly left with a bad taste. Thank goodness there were so many other treats all over Strawberry Fest to make up for this "meh" experience.

We stopped in this charming spot the other day after having lunch in the neighborhood. The ambience is so inviting, it begs you to have a seat & stay for awhile. The young lady behind the counter could not have been more helpful, friendly and delightful. After sampling a couple of their delicious gelato flavors I decided to try my first Blondie bar...Wow! It was so delicious...I am haunted by the memory! I can definitely see this place becoming a hang out: ))

Best of the Best... fantastic staff, unequaled customer service and the best baked goods in Chicago area. This place is worth a drive and you would never be disappointed by their baked items or customer service. I have been going here for 2 years now, and I have NEVER been disappointed in ANY way. Their attention to the little thing on each baked good items separates them from most anyone else. All items I've had were stellar and as tasty as any I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and go there... you will love it !

I went here during Chocolate Fest last weekend and was able to try a couple of their treats. Their chocolate macaroons & chocolate mousse were both extremely tasty and I highly recommend them! Both were so rich and delicious - maybe even the best macaroons I've ever had!

Sweet Whimsy is a quaint, French inspired pastry shoppe right in the heart of Downtown Long Grove. Everything is baked fresh daily, from delicious sugar cookies to chocolate and strawberry covered marshmallows. My experience at Sweet Whimsy was excellent and as good as it gets. I had taken my Summer Camp group there for some treats. The staff was very nice and welcoming. Chef Joshua even gave the kids a tour of his kitchen, which they thoroughly enjoyed. If you're in Long Grove and have a craving for something delicious, then stop by Sweet Whimsy.

5 Star baked goods followed by 3 Star Coffee = 4 Stars Over the years, I've had the majority of everything they bake. This past visit, it was the pretzel bread. It was soft. It was Salty. It was perfect. While inside, there was a cooking instruction class going on in the Kitchen. The place smelled amazing! Recommend: Anything baked. As for Coffee- Go for it. Its not bad, Its just not 5 Stars

My cousins and I took an Apple Tart class here. When you walk in there is the bakery where they sell treats. It's very cute in there with the exposed brick wall. Then there are windows that look into the kitchen where our class took place. We all gathered around a large table so we could all see the chef demonstrate what to do. We were given a recipe to follow while the chef gave us instructions on each step. I had one disappointment: We didn't get to create every piece of the recipe. A step or two had already been done. Other than that we had a great time and will be able to impress our family with lovely apple tarts for years to come!

The owner/baker changed in 2012 . I no longer see some of the items which I used to buy like foccacia or the oatmeal bar cookie with the fruit topping. The macaroon and chocolate croissant which I had in the fall of 2012 was not that good. Maybe I should try them again to see if they have improved.

I went to Sweet Whimsy for my valentine gifts for my husband and my step daughter. I had read some great reviews, especially about the peanut butter and jelly cookies. My family loves peanut butter anything. We live 30 miles away and it was worth the trip. I was waited on patiently while i made my selection. 4 of the pb and j cookies, two coco belles, one plain belle, one pbj bar (for me). one coconutty (yum) and four of the little vanilla bean frosted cookies. It was all so very good. When we are in the area, we will definetly make it a destination stop. Looking forward to the next wonderful bakery good to try, with coffee, of course,

Great homey pastry shop in Long Grove, perfect for a little sweet and beverage as it is near a little pond. Great decor in a small space, I love that some of the pastries can be chosen while looking through window panes. There was also a little window into the kitchen, which added to the charm. Staff was very helpful, sweet and eager to please, not robotic or hurrying to get your order and you out as fast as possible. We had the flourless chocolate cake, a vanilla bean cookie and a chocolate drop cookie. I was hankering a croissant, but get this...they were sold out. No worries though, because what we got was excellent and gives us a reason to come back. The chocolate drop cookie called to me first, and it was indeed filled with chocolate drops, not just chips. The cookie itself was fairly soft and chewy, the dough had a nice amount of baked crisp on it...great touch. The chocolate flourless cake...deceivingly small, was very rich. Oddly enough, it was dry and crumbly in my mouth for a few seconds before eventually melting into a heavy cake. The vanilla bean was not too sweet and a good one biter for...well, just walking out the store, no? Slow down and smell the sweet whimsy.

Wow. This is a fantastic high quality pastry shop. I have visited often in the last few years and have enjoyed everything, really. Chef Josh is a talented and friendly pastry chef. I took a Chocolate Volcano class last year and loved it. The only reason I don't go more often is to avoid gaining weight. They also take donations for needy children (school supplies, gently used clothing) and will give you a discount on your purchase. There is a frequent purchaser's card too. I love businesses that give back to the community. The only complaint is that the parking lot is small (shared with other businesses).

The sweetest and the coziest pastry shop I've been to in years. The owners are so warm and friendly, and needless to say, their sweet treats taste even better with their personal touch.
